A great idea! Have you considered using https://metacpan.org/module/Plagger ? It isn't actively developed anymore but it still works. The nice thing is it is very pluggable. So any sites that don't have an RSS feed, you can write a custom...

Allowing anonymous comments
Sorry, but there is no way I could resist this great opportunity.
... wondering if there is any correlation between allowing anonymous comments vs logging in.

Hadn't come across Plagger, but from a quick skim it's clearly worth a look. The documentation says "look at plagger.org for cookbook examples", so I did. Shame, it's all in Japanese. Ah, a link mentions phonesex, so I guess Miyagawa-san let the domain expire :-)

Your current talks section links to slideshare mostly, and i find that the people who care about simple talk slides are usually an entirely different set than those who care about videos. Thus, it'd probably help to have separate sections for both. Also, yeah, there are other kinds too, see the mojocasts for example. :)

Thanks for the good comments and encouragement — I'd better get on with it! Current working name is theperlhub.com, but suggestions for a better name (with .{org, com} available) gratefully received). I'll play around with the prototype while thinking about design / approach for the real thing.
Catalyst, Dancer, Mojolicious, or OX ... ?
