  • Commented on I was called "fucking asshole"
( My apologies if my remarks seem more oriented at Marc, but my ideal is to keep both KMX and Marc in the community, and making them both happy, if possible. And to that extent, its not merely sufficient in...
  • Commented on I was called "fucking asshole"
Don't let the remarks of one individual get to you KMX. As much as we appreciate Marc's technical contributions to CPAN, he has somewhat a reputation for being a bit of an ass. I get the impression Marc' is not...
  • Commented on What should be in core?
I took a while to respond because I wanted to see what others came up with. I'll definitely have to side with Gabor. From a Linux Distributions perspective, it doesn't matter so much what is and what isn't in the...
  • Commented on Three things I'd Change About Perl
The multiple versions of the same module is an interesting concept, but I agree with grantmclean when he says its a gateway to the can-of-worm farms of nasty problems and impossible to maintain systems. What I'd much rather is something...
  • Commented on Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
I'd love to see a fully featured Compiler/Assembler toolchain in Perl itself that ships with Perl. By that I mean: Not anything like the B:: family, and not something that emits .c files that can be compiled with gcc, but...
  • Commented on My Dist::Zilla and git/GitHub workflow
There’s only one problem I’ve found with the “build” branch being the default on github: 1. When somebody forks your dist, that is the branch that gets forked. 2. People are inclined to patch the built branch, not the source...
  • Commented on Using Plack to "Like" a Module on Facebook
Would love it if somebody eventually put up this hacked-cpan-interface up on the WWW so we can all use it without needing to host our own =)...
  • Commented on The CPAN client version-less dependency problem
With regard to "Report what versions of things the author was using when they made this release" aspect of this problem, I did write a dist::zilla plugin ( MetaData::BuiltWith ) for this purpose: http://search.cpan.org/dist/Dist-Zilla-Plugin-MetaData-BuiltWith/ The most verbose incantation ( MetaData::BuiltWith::All...
  • Commented on Please provide a change log
Also, please make it something OTHER than a copy of git/svn/cvs/whatever's changelog deltas. Seriously, things like this: http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/CHM/PDL-2.4.7/Changes Makes me wish you HAD NOT produced a changelog. Changelog size: 345kb. Who is ever going to read that?! Every time a...
  • Commented on Using CPAN Ratings as a bug report
I've wanted a more "Temporal" style of ratings system, simply because this star rating thing can work the other way. ie: Somebody could think Switch.pm is just awesome 10 years ago, and they're no longer using Perl, and the community...
  • Commented on Are the new Perl features worth anything?
Its not a very good idea to compare 5.10 with 5.12, considering that happened with 5.10 and how long it took to get a regression-free 5.10.1 out from it. ( And then 5.12 hit soon after 5.10.1 ) A few...
  • Commented on Perl.com - initial relaunch
http://www.perl.com/perl/misc/Artistic.html # I think getting that link up is probably the most important =). http://search.cpan.org/search?query=www.perl.com%2Fperl%2Fmisc%2FArtistic.html&mode=all 1637 results....

Sorry the code was swallowed by the comments, here it is:

    > Whether or not any of the technical realities you say are true, none of that gives you the right to continually be an awful person to anyone who happens to stumble on your RT queue and genuinely try to help fix your problem in the most obvious way possible.

I fully agree, thats one reasonw hy I am not an awful person to anybody who genuinely tries to "fix" my problem.

However, I detect an obvious troll when I see one, and by now, it's quite obvious that all kmx intends to is to stir dissent.

Nobody who wants to "genuinely" help me in any way ignores what I tell them…

    > Marc. Really, we're just trying to help. I know we probably seem like a bunch of whiney retards to you some ( most? ) days

The problem is not people who seem to be whiney retards, the problem is the whiney trolls that play you successfully.

What you basically ask for is to feed the trolls endlessly - they play you, you play the polite game, it never ends.

I don't care if others do that, but I won't. When an asshole like kmx comes along and obviously only wants to make trouble and waste time that could be used for more useful things (like helping *genuine* users), th…

  • schmorp commented on I was called "fucking asshole"

Your code of course doesn't even come close to whats needed. Posting some incomplete code that doesn't even remotely come near to a solution and proclaiming that it is easy is very naive.

Besides, the extra work is not the only problem with this approach.

  • gidisrael commented on My Dist::Zilla and git/GitHub workflow

    Hey, Oliver.

Could you please add some instructions on how to get started?

For a Dist:Zilla newbie, how do I begin with your bundle? I mean, I’m not even clear on what a bundle is.

Do I install your module and it configures everything?
