Perl Epigraphs

Many Perl release announcements included an epigraph, a short excerpt from a literary or other creative work, chosen by the pumpking or release manager. This file assembles the known list of epigraph for posterity, and also links to the release announcements in mailing list archives.

It's quite interesting to read through the epigraphs in epigraphs.pod - a small insight into the Perl pumpkings. How many epigraphs do you recognize?

Hi Leon

I see there a mention of the Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt, who drowned.

It's been the subject of a rather revealing documentary on TV. He committed suicide by going snorkelling in rough weather because he was addicted to drugs used, futilely, to deal with inoperable physical problems. These sorts of issues are of course virtually never discussed - certainly not back in the '60s.

Mental issues are much more obscure.

The macabre joke is that after his death a local (to me) swimming pool was called the Harold Holt Memorial Pool.

Perhaps someone was being just a bit sarcastic :-).

Cheers
Ron
