Intellectual deficiencies? What are you talking about dude? As you said, when you carry a ton of stuff, the weight can be a little overwhelming, and you might find your pace somewhat reduced (be happy it hasn't stopped altogether!). You're...

Sometimes I think posts such as these stem from either too quick reading or just selective reading. The original post you're referring to quite clearly specifies what kind of projects should have attractive websites, with examples such as Moose, POE...

I like playing around with 3D software such as Autodesk Maya and Blender. I gave Blender a much greater focus during the last few months, as I developed a tendency to prefer opensource solutions whenever I can.

At the beginning I had some annoying problems with it, which surprisingly or no…

    Hello there!

Being a cautious type (usually), I kept on to my recently created use.perl.org journal despite the justified acclaim this new platform gained when it was annouced.

It was worth the wait, seems like all the early illnesses hav…

What’s the point of a website for Moose or DBIC besides as a way to centralize links to talks etc (which could very well be done in POD too)? I just don’t see the added value. They are libraries, they get used by people writing code, people that are already familiar with the CPAN.

This is just limited imagination. You want to attract programmers who are not already familiar with the CPAN. In fact you want to attract programmers who are not even Perl programmers. People who don’t already know Perl should be able to realise how awesome our libraries are t…

I'm not mad, Sawyer, I may just come across like that. The attitude of marketing for the sake of marketing *does* bother me though. It was the principal reason I chose not to participate in IronMan, even though I had plenty to contribute. I think the idea of marketing for the sake of marketing and taking cues from commercial marketing is, quite frankly, mouth-breathingly fucking stupid.

You know what would be useful? People blogging about solving problems. People putting together write ups, whether they be websites or blogs or manuals or articles about meeting a problem and how they …

Guillermo, I totally agree with you that there should be more blog posts on how you solve specific problems. I hope you will also show examples of this.
On the other hand I am not sure where do you take this "marketing for the sake of marketing" thing. While the meaning of the word itself is unclear to most of the people talking about it I think there were quite a number of good explanations why Perl and its tools need more promotion. I think Aristotle gave a very good explanation.

While lowering the barrier of entry is usually a good thing, I don't think the …

It's not so much pacing yourself as learning to say no more than you say yes. You only have so much time in a day, so don't waste it. :)

I'd say "Don't whine, JFDI" and grin to it.

I know how bad it is when you are overcommitted. My standard way to deal with that is to try to prioritize and eliminate the projects that are end of the list. It hurts but once I managed to do that I can be more productive in the other projects.
