Announcing the Perl Toolchain Summit 2025!

This announcement comes a bit late in the year, but the preparations for the next Perl Toolchain Summit have been going on for several months now. Today I am proud to announce that the 15th Perl Toolchain Summit will be held in Leipzig, Germany, from Thursday May 1st till Sunday May 4th, 2025.

This post is brought to you by Deriv, a Gold Sponsor of the Perl Toolchain Summit 2024.

Trusted by over 2.5 million traders worldwide, the company offers an expansive range of trade types and boasts over 200 assets across popular markets on its award-winning, intuitive trading platforms. We'll continue with the well-oiled formula of running the event in the conference rooms of the hotel accommodating the participants. As is now customary, our team is distributed:

  • Daniel Böhmer (DBOEHMER) is the local organizer in Leipzig. He has organized several German Perl Workshops.
  • Tina Müller (TINITA) is helping with planning and experience, from Berlin, Germany. She already organized the PTS in Berlin in 2015.
  • Philippe Bruhat (BOOK) is the lead organiser and will help with planning and logistics, from Lyon, France. He organised the event 8 previous times.
  • Laurent Boivin (ELBEHO) will be handling the money from Paris, both inwards (getting it from the sponsors) and outwards (covering expenses and refunding attendees). He helped organise PTS 6 times.
  • Breno G. de Oliveira (GARU) is supporting all organizers, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has attended several PTS, and this is his second time as an organiser.

Started in 2008 by Salve Nilsen (SJN) as the Perl QA Hackathon in Oslo, the Perl Toolchain Summit is an annual event that brings together the key developers working on the Perl toolchain. Each year (except for 2020-2022), the event moves from country to country all over Europe, organised by local teams of volunteers. The surplus money from previous summits helps fund the next one.

The developers who maintain CPAN and associated tools and service are all volunteers, scattered across the globe. This event is the one time in the year when they can get together.

The summit provides dedicated time to work on the critical systems and tools, with all the right people in the same room. The attendees hammer out solutions to thorny problems and discuss new ideas to keep the toolchain moving forward. This year, about 40 people have been invited, with 35 participants expected to join us in Leipzig.

Given the important nature of the attendees' work and their volunteer status, we try to pay for most expenses (travel, lodging, food, etc.) through sponsorship. If you're interested in helping sponsor the summit, please get in touch with Philippe Bruhat at philippe@bruhat.net.
