Because I haven't neglected enough blogs
I've been thinking that a code journal of some kind would be nice. You know, the stuff that doesn't matter enough to spend days agonizing over whether I'm being too advanced or too simplistic. My other blog is okay, but I like the MT interface.
Why blogs.perl.org? I realize it may not be cool to say in some crowds, but I like Perl, Parrot, and Rakudo. This site seems like an excellent place to write about writing in those environments.
So, we'll see what happens.
Hi there, Brian. :-)
I realize it may not be cool to say in some crowds, but I like Perl,
Why do you say so? I mean from your other blog it seems you are heavily involved in Ruby and Python. Why would people there think that it is not cool that you like Perl?
Heya Aristotle.
Gabor, some folks I've worked with think of Perl as antiquated and unreadable. I'm not sure what the issue is, but their perception of the language is different from mine. My suspicion is the only Perl code they've seen is some 15 year old scripts that were put together by a sysadmin in a hurry.
To be honest, I just made that "cool" comment because I was feeling a little crabby. I've been working with Ruby On Rails for a couple of years now and don't care for it. The pay's good, but occasionally I get in a foul mood :-)
Many of the IronMan bloggers and others around the Perl community have been trying to understand where does this perception come from and how to change it?
It would be nice if you could try to ask those folks why do they think so? Have they seen modern Perl? Moose? Catalyst? If not, show them and in any case write a blog entry about your findings.
