DOIs for Perl Module tarballs, probably

A while back, Mark Fisher wrote about DOIs. As an academic, I asked about how I might cite a DOI for some Perl work. I was recently made aware of two possibilities.

First, github has made it possible to associate a DOI with your individual github repos. That's pretty awesome. Furthermore, the group backing that is called zenodo, which is a group focused on open data. Given that code is data (by definition of a turing machine), it's possible to put your module tarball up on Zenodo directly, without going through github.

I've not looked deeply into this yet. Like Mark, this is little more than a bookmark to help me remember for later. But perhaps others will also find this interesting. :-)
