Thanks, Shawn! Actually, I'm not that new. I've been hanging out on #perl (irc.freenode.net) since around 2006, and have been hooked on Perl ever since. :)
Over the years I've worked on many projects (http://github.com/ispyhumanfly) but am only just now feeling that maybe I might be able to contribute in literary form to the community that has given so much to me.

Oh, thanks... haha... actually, that was my very first Perl program and by far my worst (although it still works very nicely).
If you're interested in DVD/Video encoding. Try my Blackbeard or Mutate repositories. I learned a lot from mp4_encoder.pl and ended up creating Blackbeard, a full-scale and multi-platform DVD conversion suite.
Mutate does similar but is more of an AV toolkit. So I would recommend those...
