20,000+ distributions on CPAN!
JJ just mentioned to me that the 18,000 figure on Perl.org was now out of date...
http://search.cpan.org/ - check out the bottom left corner...
- 20127 Distributions
- 56650 Uploads
- 81688 Modules
- 8176 Uploaders
Perl.org is now updated - wonder which distribution was 20,000.
CPAN is an amazing growing resource - Perl really does help get the job done.
I have that data (except the number of modules) in the uploads database used by the CPAN Testers websites. I'll try and get an answer for the 20,000th (and 10,000th) distro tomorrow :)
Thank you Leo!
There are some web sites that show a growing number on their front page creating the feeling of something is happening right now and a lot.
For example https://mail.google.com/mail/ shows this under "Lots of space" if you are not logged in to your Gmail account.
I wonder if we could create a similar effect with the "number of modules" or "number of useful bits on CPAN" or "test reports" or "reported unit tests" (which would be an estimate of the ok() calls executed in all the test reports sent to CPANTESTERS.
@Gabor have you not seen the front page of the CPAN Testers Statistics website?
The problem with the ticker is that it rolls over quite slowly, as it uses as close to realtime as possible to click over.
For further stats see the Statistics of CPAN.
@Barbie, nope I think I have been quite lost in the cpantesters web site recently but now I looked at it and it's awesome. Of course you measured it in fractions of tests then we could see a constant improvement:
7080341.0023 test reports
7080341.0027 test reports
....
I know...
@Leo, as promised some stats for you. I shall be including these stats into the CPAN Testers Statistics site in a future release :)
Note these numbers and dates refer to all uploads to CPAN since it started. The numbers on search.cpan.org appear to reference only what is current on CPAN now.
@Gabor: If you want to change the front page for CPAN, I suggest you add two columns: "What's New" and "What's Popular". Both would list the top ten items.
