OT: Reset/Use Another Netflix Streaming Server
To reset/use another Netflix streaming server, disconnect your Internet service for 5 minutes (as in "turn off your cable/DSL modem"). Once you reconnect your Internet service, Netflix acts as if you had never connected to Netflix before so it assigns you a fresh server. This does not guarantee that you will switch servers, but it has been found agreeable to my practice.
I wish Netflix would publicize this tactic.
I think this would only work if your modem gets a new IP address. Some people pay to have a static IP address.
It might only depend on how long you were disconnected -- I think it would take Netflix extra effort to maintain the relationship between a static home IP and a particular Netflix server. Also, it would depend on whether you actually got a different DHCP-assigned IP address after you reconnected (you are not guaranteed of that outcome).
However, I have no idea how Netflix internally implements their re-connect protocol, so you might be right about static home IPs.
