My first blog about Perl

I think that while even I didn't read any book about Perl and didn't write even one code of perl, I can still write my first blog about Perl. I have experience in .net, a bit C (*nix) and a bit C++ (win) and a bit theory, though, all of them can't make a very professional man yet. I hope that someday, financial problems get resolved and I become professional.
I have no degree, but have worked in software development for a while, have programmed a software for automation and a NMS both in MS C#.Net, and also I have done some unfinished works that is a main expertise of me. :) I have a SMS PDU encoder in C++ and can give anybody wants for free, I had worked about encoding that I didn't understand what it is. :)
Let's speak about Perl instead of me. I don't know the usage of it, I mean I know that many web pages are designed in CGI/Perl, but I don't know if it is the main work of it like php or not. Honestly, the only reason I come to work in Perl is that I saw that it is a course in the online university I want to enrol.
I am interested in algorithms, and want to begin works like writing a spell checker in perl, I think that it is a good start. I think that many things are ready perl, more than C, even C++. If I find enough time, I may study about design of Perl compiler, too.
I know that many developers know Perl besides another language like C, and they do lighter things with Perl, and also it is said that it is used by administrators, I saw it before, I saw a chart used for showing the performance file system that was written completely in Perl.
It should be easy to use, though, I guess that other than unix/linux world, it is not used so much in Windows Desktop world, though some open source projects use it, for example, I saw that Nokia Symbian Development SDK uses it. I don't know why, I hope to understand it, maybe, it is because it makes works faster and it is why developers use it when needed.
Nothing more,
Happy Perl!

Thanks!
