FPW (French Perl Workshop) - Report 1
I reached Paris yesterday morning and went to see Alexis Sukrieh (sukria) - founder of Dancer - at his office at Weborama. I was invited to give the Moose talk there as well, and happily agreed. While I was imagining 2-4 people, the room was full and it was very nice. I got to see Damien Krotkine (dams), who is also a core Dancer developer, and one hell of a guy.
Paris is really beautiful, and it's most beautiful when you don't take the regular route, and instead spend time in the smaller streets, and seeing life through the eyes of a Parisian and not a tourist. I still carry my camera with me everywhere (and I only finally put the suitcase at home in the evening) so that kind of spoils it a bit. :)
In the evening we went to see Franck Cuny - another core Dancer developer - at a small restaurant to have a get-together to congratulate him on his new job in San Francisco. Franck is one of the most clever developers I had the opportunity to work with, and I'm sure he will succeed very well in his new job, with its new challenges.
This morning I found a good grocer and bought lots of fruits (watermelons, cantaloupes, bananas) for a relatively cheap price. We met dams (who brought copies of his excellent Perl Moderne book) and we took the car to the venue.
It's a very big place and there are roughly 70 attendees. I recognized a few faces, mostly from Linkfluence. I have a picture of Philippe Bruhat (BooK) wearing a pink Dancer tshirt!
The talks just started and while all the talks today are in French, I understand some of it, which is really cool. Hopefully my French will improve as the day goes on. Tomorrow morning I'm giving my Moose talk (and 2 more talks later that day) and I'm super hyped.
Today I'll be hacking on Dancer quite a bit, and hopefully report some good advancements.
Hope you guys have fun :)
