  • Commented on Recreated comments for Perl in Catincan, an open source crowd funding proposal
Thanks for sharing BooK. That is a great example! Looking into it I see the link to ACT(A Conference Toolkit). I wasn't familiar with it so reading the history to my surprise, you're one of the creators. Of particular interest...
  • Posted Recreated comments for Perl in Catincan, an open source crowd funding proposal to PerlUserFromTheFuture

I spent time to create the below message for Brian's post on crowfunding. For whatever reason, he felt the need to delete my post. So I've recreated the gist of what I said previously. I guess next time I'll take a screenshot for posterity.

Brian, Now that is a great contribution! Th…

  • Commented on About Perl Grants
Welcome and great post Metadoo. I have to warn you though some of the louder voices will complain there is no meta to identify Metadoo. My concern with the grant process is that it seems to be stuck in an...
  • Commented on Ask JAPH - A Tumblr Experiment
Very cool! Is there a way to use CNAMEs with tumbler? That way something more externally recognizeable as Perlish could be used as a domain?...

  • Commented on YAPC Presentation Recordings
An interesting thing to read is YAPC - Yet Another Perl Conference information and documentation (http://tpf.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/yapc/YAPC.pm) I'd like to specifically highlight the following paragraph: --- Before you think about anything to do with the organizing of an open source conference,...

  • Commented on YAPC Presentation Recordings
Thank you for the response. I'm not sure why there would be a requirement for a TPF board member to be present at a conference. YAPCs are run as independent organizations aren't they? The pricing question is interesting and I...

Hagen...Excellent points! How could we overcome the upload bandwidth issue from the raw capture? What if the "suggested" capture device has removable media? At the end of the conference, the organizer ships the card(s) to yet another volunteer who does...

Did I ever say money was the only key to making all of this happen on a quality level? Ok, so let's talk hypotheticals and worst case scenarios. Best to get doomsday out of the way so we can worry...
  • Commented on More on video recordings
Regarding equipment cost, please read my initial posting. I asked...can we create a mechanism to do this specifically such as fundraising. TPF can then use these as grants for YAPC orgranizers. The issue of equipment cost is also the reason...

  • Posted YAPC Presentation Recordings to PerlUserFromTheFuture

Is there a reason The Perl Foundation does not take charge of a central hosting repository for videos from larger YAPCs? Or an initiative to focus on quality recordings? I'd love to see(and hear) more high quality recordings. Looking over the 2012 YAPC:NA videos it appears they were recorded…

  • Commented on Perl 7
Since Perl 6(Camelia) is meant to be somewhat(albeit distantly) related to Perl 5. How about renaming Perl 6 to Vidalia? Let Perl 5 continue on an agreed upon incremental version naming scheme....

  • Alex Balhatchet commented on Ask JAPH - A Tumblr Experiment

There is a way to use CNAMES with tumblr. If this experiment is a success I'll definitely consider grabbing a domain.

Got my first question! Unsurprisingly it was about the version number debate... not really the kind of question I had in mind but I took a shot at giving my opinion :-)

I assume metadoo is the same metadoo as this metadoo - there can't be that many metadoos, can there?

  • metadoo commented on About Perl Grants

Thanks for the comment. Yes, completely agree with you. It would be better if contributors of money can themselves choose what to spend money on given reasonable options they can chose from. May be this can better direct money to real needs, and probably make contributors more willing to contribute.

To some degree something like that is already in place. There is the Perl 5 maintenance fund, so that money can be donated to be spent in more or less predefined way. An since there are donations to this fund, the system works.

But I think grants system has natural limits, and lac…

Anyway, I do not feel comfortable communicating with an anonymous, even if there's a lot to discuss here, sorry.

    He is pseudonymous, not anonymous.

Would you refuse to communicate with chromatic? Or Abigail? Or Father Chrysostomos? If this person had chosen to sign up as Robert Sander or Richard Lark or Walter Pilgrim, would it even have occurred to you that it might not be their real name? And even if it’s not, what difference does it make here? Do you know whether my name is in fact Aristotle? Whether anyone else who call themselves whatever they may cal…

  • Aristotle commented on Perl 7

Yes Jenda, these clearly look like dead projects to me. You’re talking out of your ass. As for your opinion that this supposed failure of the effort entitles you to give the people who are working on it a public “fuck you”, how about a nice big cup of shut-the-hell-up.

    Thank you.
